Malaysian Mixed Double’s Resilience Paved The Way Into Semi-Finals

January 17, 2025 – Malaysia’s two mixed doubles pairs have managed to secure a spot in the semi-finals of the Indian Open, further advancing their impressive performance on Friday, 17 January.
During the quarterfinals situated at Indhira Gandhi Sports Complex, New Delhi, the pair Goh Soon Huat and Shevon Jamie Lai delivered a solid performance on Court 2.
Going up against Taiwan’s Yang Po-hsuan and Hu Ling-fang, the nation’s duo managed to dominate the match by 21-11, 21,15 score points in just 29 minutes.

Performance Overview
In a post-match interview, Soon Huat reflected on their winning performance.
The nation’s pair took focus in staying composed under pressure, maintaining consistency and making a strong comeback when opponents were catching up was the most important key.
“Overall, I think we played well,” he told the Badminton World Federation (BWF).
Challenges On Court 1
On the other hand, teammates Cheng Tang Jie and Toh Ee Wei had a more challenging match on Court 1. A service fault that took place early on in the second game disrupted the pair’s consistent flow, as they had won straight sets previously.
A protest arose from Ee Wei’s end after the umpire’s decision on service error. Despite this momentary disruption, both players managed to regain their composure after an intervention from coach Mohd. Lufti Zaim Khalid, which guided them back to the right mindset.

Victory After Setbacks
Their frustrations paid off as they won the match after 43 minutes, with a scoring of 21-16, 21-17.
“We made several errors on the court, however the result was good. We want to remain positive,” said Tang Jie.
The quarterfinals performance did not fully satisfy the pair. However, they believe in their ability to work on improvements and further strive for future matches.
