Uzbekistan To Strengthen Ties With Malaysia In A Diplomatic Visit

February 4, 2025 – President Shavkat Mirziyoyev of the Republic of Uzbekistan will embark on an official visit to Malaysia on 4 and 5 February 2025.

This marks his first visit to the country since he assumed office in December 2016. During his visit, President Mirziyoyev will be accompanied by seven Cabinet ministers, including Minister of Foreign Affairs Bakhtiyor Saidov, and other senior government officials.

Welcoming Ceremony And Bilateral Talks

President Mirziyoyev will receive an official welcome at the Perdana Putra Complex in Putrajaya on the 5th of February, tomorrow.

Malaysia’s Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim will meet with the leaders following the visit. They will discuss the progress of bilateral relations, focusing on trade and investment, the Halal industry, education, connectivity, and tourism.

The two leaders will also exchange views on regional and international issues, including Malaysia’s ASEAN Chairmanship in 2025.

Strengthening Ties

A joint statement is to be issued at the end of the bilateral talk. Leaders are expected to see the exchange of three Memorandums of UnderstandIng (MoUs), particularly on:

  • Health
  • Forensic Sciences
  • Culture

Additionally, four Exchanges of Notes (EoNos) will be signed, covering sectors including Higher educations, Diplomatic Training, Halal and Customs. These agreements are expected to strengthen ties and foster collaboration between Malaysia and Uzbekistan

Official Lunch and Business Forum

An official luncheon will be hosted at the courtesy of Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, further extending a warm welcome to President Mirziyoyev at the complex.

Both leaders are suit to attend the Malaysia-Uzbekistan Business Forum situated at Kuala Lumpur to further explore golden opportunities that fosters the economic collaboration between the two nations. The forum that brings together business communities from both countries also stimulate the trading and investment agenda.

PETRONAS will be the respectable dinner host for President Mirziyoyev and Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim later that evening.

Trade Relations

While the total trade between Malaysia and Uzbekistan experienced a slight decline in 2024, decreasing by 13.2 percent to RM369.8 million (USD80.9 million), the trade balance remains in Malaysia’s favor at RM360.3 million (USD78.9 million).

Uzbekistan remains Malaysia’s second-largest trading partner in Central Asia, highlighting the importance of this ongoing partnership.
