KUALA LUMPUR, February 5, 2025 – Influential local food reviewer Jason Chen recently responded to a TikTok video that criticized his honest approach to food reviews. The video, posted by a popular content creator, Kaki Review, found an issue with Jason’s integrity, as his honest assessments could harm the business of certain restaurants.

His Stand On The Issue

In a three-minute video of his own, Jason directly addressed the criticism, as he had been asked to tone down his honesty to avoid impacting the customer flow of restaurants he reviewed. He fired back with a pointed question: Were these restaurants empty because of his honest reviews, or was it simply because they served low-quality food?

“Do bad reviews kill companies, or do bad products kill companies?” He quoted MKBHD.

Kaki Review suggested he should steer away from showing up to restaurants uninvited. He pointed out the irony, stating that all customers are free to visit any restaurant and leave a public review, whether they were personally invited or not.

He also noted how Kaki Review’s prejudice seemed to cloud his judgement, especially when comparing their opinions of certain food stalls to Jason’s positive reviews. Such personal vendettas unfairly influenced the review process.

Jason explained that no matter the size of his platform, a restaurant will still be busy if it serves good food, regardless of any negative review.

Finally, Jason addressed the racial undertones in the video’s comment section, calling out the inappropriate remarks as unnecessary. As a matter of fact, taste preferences should never be linked to someone’s race.

In the end, Jason was praised for standing firm in his commitment to integrity. Despite receiving various opinions on his reviewing style, he continues to champion the idea that businesses must provide high-quality food that meets the expectations of their customers.
