Malaysia Calls Forced Displacement Of Palestinians An ‘Ethnic Cleanse’

KUALA LUMPUR February 10, 2025 – Malaysia has expressed their strong stance against the forced resettlement of Palestinians in Gaza, following U.S. President Donald Trump’s announcement that Washington would assume authority over the territory.
Foreign Affairs Minister Dato’ Seri Utama Haji Mohammad Hasan has stated that the resettlement plan closely resembles a form of ethnic cleansing, highlighting that it not only breaches several United Nations (UN) resolutions but also violates established international laws.
President Donald Trump once again made the headlines after announcing his plan to take over Gaza, further imposing threats to to the third world country. On his social media platform, he highlights the key aspects of this movement, suggesting that Gaza would fall under U.S. control with cooperation from Israel.
However, this proposal was quick to be at the condemnation of other parties, with leaders across Europe and Southeast Asia stating their criticism and discontentment towards Trump’s inhumane proposal.
Malaysia’s Foreign Affairs Minister emphasized that any effort to impose solutions on the Palestinian people without their consent, especially those that ignore their right to independence and freedom, is wrong and unjust. Such actions will only make the long-standing conflict in the region worse.

“Malaysia continues to stand in solidarity with the people of Palestine,” he says. Malaysia has been consistently upfront and vocal in its support for the country and its people for many years, rather than offering temporary support when the issue is still urgent. He also stated that the idea was “deeply regrettable.”
In response to Trump’s ideas of relocating millions of Palestinians to Saudi Arabia, Saudi Foreign Ministry declared that they strongly reject any violation of Palestinian rightful claims— whether through Israeli settlements, land annexation or efforts to force them out of their homelands.
Following the widespread backlash to this news, Trump Administration seemed to backtrack on the president’s proposals, claiming that any future resettlements of Palestinians will only occur temporarily during the reconstruction of Gaza.
