KUALA LUMPUR Feb 24, 2025 – Education Ministry of Malaysia (KPM) has declared early school dismissal for afternoon sessions in light of Ramadhan.

The recently implemented adjustment will affect Muslim students and teachers in schools across Malaysia. While morning school sessions will continue as usual, afternoon sessions will be shortened. For schools in Peninsular Malaysia, afternoon classes will conclude by 5:30 pm, allowing students and teachers to observe Ramadan with ease.

Meanwhile, afternoon sessions in Sabah, Sarawak, and the Federal Territory of Labuan, will end even earlier at 5:00 pm. This adjustment aims to accommodate the needs of those observing the holy month, ensuring a more manageable school schedule during Ramadhan.

As false information regulates on the net regarding school operation hours during the fasting month, KPM warns the public on the spreading of misinformation, and urges parents to be more aware to such news.

The Education Ministry highlighted, “This schedule was established to ensure smooth school operations that allow Muslim students and teachers to perform religious practices without a hitch.”

Schools operating under the government’s supervision must strictly follow the guidelines set by the Ministry of Education. Any violation of of school hours that prevent students from leaving by the designated time will result in serious actions on the school’s administration.

Muslims in Malaysia will anticipate Ramadhan on March 1st, 2025. The celebration of Hari Raya Aidil-fitri will follow suit a month later, on March 30th. These dates remain subjected to the sighting of the crescent moon that will take place on Friday, which marks the official start and end to the Islamic holy month.

As a result of this implementation, parents have shown overwhelming support, as it not only accommodates their religious observances but also contributes to the overall well-being of the school community during the fasting month.
