Malaysia’s renowned radio station, ERA FM, has come under intense scrutiny following a viral video that sparked widespread outrage. The now-deleted video featured several popular radio announcers and celebrities, including Nabil Ahmad, Azad Jasmin, and Radin, who were seen mocking Hinduism and its sacred practices.

In the controversial footage, the personalities mimicked traditional Indian cultural gestures, accompanied by the derogatory chant of “Vel vel!”— a mocking reference to religious rituals observed during the Thaipusam festival.
Thaipusam is a significant occasion for Hindus, in which devotees call upon Lord Muruga while undertaking the Kavadi ritual as an act of devotion.

Many took to the internet to express their outrage, questioning ERA FM’s commitment to cultural sensitivity and their stance on racism. As the controversy continues to unfold, the public is demanding accountability from the station, urging them to clarify their position on respect for all religious beliefs and practices.
This disgraceful act is a clear violation of the 3R concept: Race, Religion, and Royalty, which functions as fundamental pillars that uphold the values of respect and unity in Malaysian society.
