Anwar Urges KPDN To Tighten Price Checks In Bazaars

KUALA LUMPUR, March 4 2025 – As we embrace the month of Ramadan, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has directed the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry to tighten its grip on price monitoring and ensure that essential goods remain widely available and reasonably priced.

In a meeting with Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali, Anwar emphasized the need for more frequent inspections and stricter enforcement under Ops Pantau 2025, a nationwide initiative aimed at preventing unfair price hikes.
His senior press secretary, Tunku Nashrul Abaidah, explained that the prime minister wants authorities to keep a close eye on market trends, making sure that supplies remain stable throughout the festive season.
“If there are any disruptions, the government must act fast, working closely with the Agriculture and Food Security Ministry to fix the issue before it affects consumers,” he added.
Anwar also called for tighter price control at Ramadan bazaars, urging officials to ensure that food vendors do not take advantage of increased demand by overcharging customers. He stressed the importance of enforcing government-mandated price ceilings, especially under the upcoming Festive Season Maximum Price Scheme.
To personally assess the situation, Anwar will be visiting several bazaars himself, where he plans to inspect food prices and quality while also engaging with small traders.
Rahmah Madani Sales
In a bid to ease financial strain on Malaysians, Anwar has also instructed for more Rahmah Madani Sales to take place throughout Ramadan and leading up to Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration. These government-backed sales offer discounted essential goods, giving the public a chance to stock up on necessities at lower prices.

Authorities have already begun implementing Ops Pantau 2025, with enforcement officers carrying out inspections across key locations such as:
- Ramadan and Aidilfitri bazaars
- Public and wet markets
- Supermarkets and grocery stores
According to Armizan, the operation is being conducted in a coordinated and focused manner, ensuring that traders follow regulations and do not exploit consumers during the festive period.
A Proactive Approach To Protect Customers
With prices fluctuating and demand rising, the government is making consumer protection a top priority this festive season. Through strict enforcement, continuous monitoring, and affordable sales initiatives, Anwar’s administration is working to ensure that Malaysians can celebrate Ramadan and Aidilfitri without excessive financial burden.
