KUALA LUMPUR March 6, 2025 – The United Malays National Organization (UMNO) today issued a statement distancing itself from any involvement in the corruption investigation of former Prime Minister Ismail Sabri.

The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has named Ismail Sabri as a key suspect in an ongoing investigation involving the misappropriation of a substantial sum from government funds, as RM170 million stacks of cash including other valuable items has been seized from one of his properties.

The treasure confiscated from one of Sabri’s safe house, including RM170 million cash from different currencies, gold bars, luxurious jewelries and watches.

Umno strongly denies accusations of being tied to the scandal, stating: “UMNO firmly states that the party has no connection to the discovery.” The party fully supports the MACC in carrying out its investigation with transparency, independence, and fairness, free from any interference.

According to MACC, 16kg worth of gold bars were also found in Sabri’s premise.

Earlier on February 19, the suspect was called for questioning regarding the use of government funds for promotions and publicity during his tenure as Prime Minister from August 2021 to November 2022.

UMNO also urged the public to refrain from spreading further misconceptions about the matter, emphasizing: UMNO will not hesitate to take legal action against any party that deliberately associates, accuses, or creates the perception that it is linked to the investigation.”

Ismail Sabri Yaakob served as Malaysia’s ninth Prime Minister from August 21, 2021, to November 24, 2022. His tenure focused on managing the COVID-19 pandemic and economic recovery while navigating a fragile political landscape.

He stepped down after the 15th General Election, which ultimately paved the way for Anwar Ibrahim’s leadership.
