KUALA LUMPUR, 25 March 2025 – Malaysia has earned a prestigious spot as the seventh-best country in the world to retire in 2025, according to the latest Global Retirement Index by International Living. The annual index evaluates countries based on affordability, healthcare, climate, visa benefits, and overall quality of life.

Kuala Lumpur and other major cities offer retirees a lower cost of living than many Western nations, with housing, food, and healthcare priced affordably without sacrificing quality. On average, a retired couple can live comfortably on a monthly budget of US$1,500 to US$2,000, with rental costs for modern apartments ranging between US$300 and US$500.


World-Class Healthcare and Expat-Friendly Culture

Malaysia’s private healthcare system has consistently drawn praise for its quality, affordability, and accessibility. Medical tourism continues to rise, with hospitals in Penang and Kuala Lumpur offering care that meets or exceeds international standards.
