KUALA LUMPUR Feb 14, 2025 – Rising superstar Sabrina Carpenter pledges $25K donation in support of enhanced artist’s healthcare, following Charli XCX and more.

Grammy-winner Chappell Roan highlighted in her acceptance speech how devoted artists in the industry are also humans deserving of equal access to healthcare support including health insurance. As a response, numerous artists and labels has matched her donation of $25k towards the ‘We Got You!’ initiative, which is approximately RM 111,000.

Charli XCX took to her Social Media her move in matching the donation to further support self developing artists who may be in the same boat as Roan did during her career early on, when she was left without healthcare support after parting ways with her label.

This gesture was inspired by Noah Kahan, which later on urged more artists including Sabrina Carpenter to contribute to the funds.

“Your speech at the Grammys was inspiring and thoughtful, and from a genuine place of care. Happy to help get the ball rolling too,” said the British singer.

Former Label Reacts

In reaction to to Roan’s callout of her former label during her speech, A&R Executive Jeff Rabhan labeled it as misinformation in his guest column for The Hollywood Reporter. Roan then challenged him to match her $25K donation towards the healthcare fund, saying: “@jeffrabhan wanna match me $25K to donate to struggling dropped artists? My publicist is @biz3publicity let’s talk.”

Among the artists who donated are also a couple of known labels, such as Live Nation, Sumerian Records and Hinterlands Music Festival. See the full list here.

Singer and songwriter Sabrina Carpenter, known for her hit song “Espresso,” aided a generous $25K to the campaign on Wednesday through Backline, the central platform for “We Got You” donations.

The two artists, who share the same label (Island Records), have been close friends since Coachella 2024, with a deep mutual respect for each other’s work in the industry.

Chappell Remains Her Stance Despite Criticism

Chappell Roan remains a passionate advocate for the welfare of fellow artists in the industry, having been open about her mental health struggles from a young age. She entered the music world with limited understanding of the challenges that lay ahead, yet has since used her voice to support others facing similar battles.

“Because I got signed so young, I got signed as a minor, and when I got dropped, I had zero job experience under my belt. Like most people, I had a difficult time finding a job in a pandemic and could not afford health insurance,” she stressed in her speech.

This movement is a big step forward for artist welfare, pushing for better healthcare access in the industry. By supporting initiatives like ‘We Got You!’ it helps ensure future artists won’t face the same struggles, creating a more supportive environment for them to grow their artistry.
