PMO Clarifies Daily Briefings Will Not Overlap with Fahmi’s Official Spokesperson Role

KUALA LUMPUR, March 3, 2025 – The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) has sought to clarify that its newly introduced daily briefings will not interfere with Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil’s established role as the official government spokesperson.
In the recent PMO livestream, Tunku Nashrul Abaidah, the Prime Minister’s senior press secretary, explained, “Daily PMO Briefings will focus on the daily developments and work activities of the prime minister, including his explanations on urgent issues as well as directives to ministries and agencies to ensure government policies are implemented in an organised and effective manner.”
He further emphasized that the daily briefings are intended to complement, not replace, Fadzil’s weekly sessions. “In a way, this also strengthens the communication structure within the government,” Tunku Nashrul added.
The Medium Of Information
Despite the clarifications, the initiative has drawn criticism from opposition figures, with PAS leader Nurul Islam Mohammed Yusoff suggesting that the communications minister should be dismissed for failing to adequately fulfill his responsibilities as the primary spokesperson.
Tunku Nashrul also noted that the introduction of these daily briefings aims to provide the public with credible and accurate information, fostering a society that is well-informed and aware.

“With this, the spreading of false news and misinformation can also be avoided at all costs,” he stressed.
The daily briefings are scheduled to be broadcast live on the official Facebook, YouTube pages of the PMO and Prime Minister Anwar, at 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. each day.
As technology advances, false information spreads effortlessly online, often misleading society on key issues. Such acts may also seek to tarnish the government’s reputation.
This initiative aims to address these challenges, ensuring the public remains informed with accurate, official news.
