TAIPEI, 9 April 2025 – Celebrated Taiwanese actress and singer Rene Liu returns to the small screen with a powerful lead role in Netflix’s upcoming original drama “Forget You Not”, a poignant exploration of memory, love, and personal redemption set against the vibrant yet fading backdrop of modern Taipei.

Netflix released the first teaser trailer for the series yesterday, offering viewers a glimpse into the emotionally charged narrative and stirring cinematography. Scheduled for global release in June 2025, the series is already generating widespread anticipation across Asia and among international drama fans.

A Tale of Lost Time and Second Chances

“Forget You Not” centers around Liu’s character, Li Qing, a renowned novelist suffering from early-onset memory loss. As she pieces together fragments of her past, she rediscovers forgotten relationships, long-silenced regrets, and an unfinished love story that still haunts her.

“This is one of the most emotionally complex characters I’ve ever portrayed,” said Rene Liu during a press event. “It’s a deeply human story about identity, memory, and the struggle to hold on to love.”

The show blends drama with psychological mystery, as Li Qing’s journey leads her to revisit key moments of her youth, guided by a journal she once kept—and a man she may have once loved but can no longer remember.

Netflix’s Asia Strategy and Cultural Resonance

Netflix has doubled down on its Asia-Pacific content strategy, investing heavily in Korean, Japanese, and now Taiwanese original productions to tap into rapidly growing streaming audiences in the region.

“We are proud to tell stories that resonate not just locally, but globally,” said a Netflix Asia content executive. “‘Forget You Not’ is both uniquely Taiwanese and universally touching.”

Malaysia remains a major market for Netflix in Southeast Asia, and the platform expects the series to perform well among local audiences, especially with its themes of family, loss, and legacy—core motifs that are culturally resonant across the region.

Rene Liu’s Return to Form

This marks Rene Liu’s first major television role in over five years. Known for her emotive acting and nuanced performances, Liu brings gravitas to a script penned by rising Taiwanese screenwriter Huang Mingjie, and directed by Cheng Weihao, known for the acclaimed psychological thriller The Soul.

The ensemble cast also features:

  • Joseph Chang as the mysterious former lover
  • Hsieh Ying-xuan as Li Qing’s estranged sister
  • Lung Shao-hua in one of his final filmed performances before his passing in 2023

The show was filmed over six months in Taiwan’s lesser-known urban districts, aiming to highlight the cultural and architectural elements of Taipei’s disappearing neighborhoods.

Cultural Export with Global Appeal

As Taiwan continues to emerge as a creative powerhouse in the global entertainment landscape, “Forget You Not” exemplifies how local storytelling can transcend borders. Netflix has confirmed multi-language subtitle and dubbing options, with premieres planned across more than 20 countries.

The emotional depth of the narrative is expected to appeal to drama lovers across demographics, and critics are already pegging the series as a potential awards contender in the upcoming Asian Television Awards circuit.

An Asian Drama That Asks Us to Remember

In a streaming landscape filled with action, fantasy, and spectacle, “Forget You Not” is a reminder of the power of intimate, character-driven storytelling. Rene Liu’s return adds star power, while the series’ grounded realism promises a deeply moving viewer experience.

Malaysian fans can expect the show to premiere with full accessibility options on Netflix Malaysia this June, further cementing Netflix’s role in elevating Asia’s creative voices.
