Hospital Picaso Launches First Revolutionary AI Cancer Centre

PETALING JAYA, 24 April 2025 — Hospital Picaso has officially launched its state-of-the-art Cancer Centre, marking a significant advancement in Malaysia’s oncology care landscape. This purpose-built facility integrates early screening, diagnostics, advanced treatment, and supportive care under one roof, aiming to enhance early detection and improve patient outcomes.

“The opening of Hospital Picaso Cancer Centre is more than just the inauguration of a new facility. By integrating the entire process—from screenings to surgeries—all orchestrated within a single centre, we are redefining the cancer journey through a wholesome approach,” said Dr. Mastura Md Yusof, Consultant Clinical Oncologist at Hospital Picaso. “This reflects our commitment to advanced surgery and personalised care for every patient.”

The centre addresses the pressing need for coordinated cancer care in Malaysia, where 65.1% of cases between 2017 and 2021 were detected at late stages (Stage 3 and 4). By housing all essential services—from early screenings and diagnostic imaging to specialist consultations, advanced surgery, and post-treatment care—under one roof, the centre ensures faster decision-making, shared clinical insights, and a more seamless care journey.
Since its soft opening in June 2024, Hospital Picaso has performed approximately 350 robotic surgeries, 28 intraoperative radiation therapy (IORT) procedures, completed 102 radiotherapy cases, and administered over 900 chemotherapy sessions. These milestones underscore the centre’s commitment to delivering comprehensive cancer care.

A notable highlight is the acquisition of the Elekta Harmony Pro, an AI-powered radiotherapy machine, making Hospital Picaso the first in Malaysia to house this advanced technology. “The radiology discipline contributes to precision by identifying patients suitable for interventional procedures, monitoring response to therapies, and providing imaging biomarkers that support early treatment modification,” said Dr. Basri Johan Jeet Abdullah, Consultant Radiologist and Interventional Radiologist. “All these elements lead to enhancing clinical pathways, which can be adapted in near real-time, hence improving treatment outcomes.”
Hospital Picaso’s integrated approach reflects its belief in “Advanced Surgery, Personalised Care,” aiming to deliver better outcomes and quality of life for patients.
