Intel Appoints Dr. Craig H. Barratt to Board of Directors
SANTA CLARA, 11 November 2025 — Intel Corporation has appointed Dr. Craig H. Barratt, a highly respected semiconductor and technology veteran, to its Board of Directors, effective immediately. The move strengthens Intel’s leadership bench at a time when the global chip industry is undergoing rapid innovation, intense competition, and unprecedented investment.
A Proven Leader in Wireless, Networking, and Next-Gen Chip Technologies
Dr. Barratt, 63, joins the board with more than 30 years of hands-on leadership in deep-tech and semiconductor development. He previously served as CEO of Atheros Communications — a pioneering wireless semiconductor company — where he led the company to a successful IPO and later guided its USD 3.1 billion acquisition by Qualcomm.

After Intel acquired Barefoot Networks, Dr. Barratt served as Senior Vice President overseeing Intel’s Ethernet, photonics, and networking businesses, giving him direct experience with Intel’s core engineering and data-center roadmap.
His earlier tenure at Google included oversight of Google Fiber and other broadband and energy initiatives, adding broad operational and infrastructure expertise to his portfolio.
Today, he also serves as the lead independent director of Intuitive Surgical (ISRG) and sits on the boards of Astera Labs (ALAB) and several private technology companies.
Intel Leadership Welcomes a Strategic Thinker

Intel CEO Lip-Bu Tan praised the appointment, describing Dr. Barratt as a leader with exceptional technical and strategic capability:
“Craig is a highly accomplished technology leader with a proven ability to innovate, scale, and transform businesses… His experience at multiple leading-edge technology companies will be invaluable as we continue to execute our strategy and capitalize on our long-term growth opportunities.”
Dr. Barratt expressed enthusiasm about joining Intel’s board during a period of major transition for the company and the industry at large:
“I’m honored to join Intel’s board at such a pivotal time… Intel’s technology is the foundation of the world’s most important innovations, and I’m excited to help strengthen the company’s engineering excellence and drive the next waves of technological advancement.”
A Strategic Appointment During Intel’s Rebuilding Phase
Intel is in the midst of a multi-year transformation to reclaim leadership in semiconductor manufacturing, increase foundry competitiveness, and expand into new growth areas such as AI accelerators, advanced packaging, and high-performance networking.
Dr. Barratt’s background — spanning semiconductors, optical networking, cloud infrastructure, and large-scale broadband — aligns closely with Intel’s current priorities.
Analysts say his appointment signals Intel’s continued commitment to strengthening engineering leadership on the board as the company executes its multibillion-dollar turnaround plan.
Looking Forward: Strengthening Governance and Innovation
The addition of Dr. Barratt reinforces Intel’s board with a leader deeply rooted in both innovation and operational execution. His cross-industry perspective is expected to support Intel as it navigates complex competitive dynamics, ramps up advanced chip production, and pursues long-term technological leadership.
As the global semiconductor market expands — driven by AI, cloud computing, edge devices, and high-performance connectivity — Intel’s renewed emphasis on engineering and strategic discipline is seen as critical to its future trajectory.
