Orang Asli Students Secure Gold Medals At The IRO 2025

January 24, 2025 – A team of Orang Asli students from Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Permatang Keledang in Pahang secured the gold medal in the Primary School Robotics Innovation category (ages 10 to 13) at the 26th International Robot Olympiad in Busan, South Korea.

This four day event wrapped up in victory for the Malaysian team as Fizrey Rovince A/L Ronachai, Hafiezie A/L Azwanizizi, and Matthew Jambai A’L Karong won over representatives from 23 other countries including China, South Korea and New Zealand.

This significant milestone was announced by The Pekan district education office on their Facebook page, praising the student’s impressive achievements.

“This success not only showcases the talents and abilities of its students, but also the hard work and commitment of teachers in honing science and technology skills,” the caption reads.

Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail also joined in to congratulate the trio in championing the prestigious robotics contest, highlighting their ability to shine on the global stage.

This major achievement was a result of collaborative efforts between the team, which consisted of two standard six pupils and one standard five pupil, supported by highly committed teachers who drove them towards this success.

As a result, the trio was able to work effectively in creating and presenting robotics solutions,
addressing challenges through innovation and teamwork.

Wan Rosdy expressed his hopes that this huge win at the IRO will serve as an inspiration to younger generations, especially the youth of Orang Asli community.

“Well done to the pupils, teacher, and the school. We are highly proud of you.”
