Met Gala 2025 Featuring Superfine Tailoring Black Style
KUALA LUMPUR, February 5, 2025 – The Metropolitan Museum of Art has officially announced the theme for the highly anticipated Met Gala 2025, which will take place on the first Monday of May. This year’s event promises to be an extraordinary celebration of fashion, culture, and history.

Superfine: Tailoring Black Style
Inspired by Monica L. Miller’s Slaves To Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity, the 2025 Met Gala will explore the rich and multifaceted history of Black dandyism and the unique ways it has shaped fashion and identity. Centering on a legacy of innovation and cultural significance, the exhibition will highlight key elements of dandy style, with 12 sections representing core themes such as Ownership, Presence, Distinction, Disguise, Freedom, and more. – Vogue
Miller’s scholarly work provides the framework for this exhibition, shedding light on the ways Black dandyism has influenced not only the fashion world but also wider societal perceptions of race, power, and individuality. These thematic sections will explore ideas ranging from Jook—a term popularized by Zora Neale Hurston in her seminal work Characteristics of Negro Expression—to Cosmopolitanism, showcasing how leisure, heritage, and beauty have long been expressions of Black identity and resistance.
The Met Gala’s Co-Chairs and Honorary Chair
This year’s Met Gala will be hosted by an impressive lineup of cultural icons, each bringing their own special touch to the event. Co-chairs for the evening will include actor Colman Domingo, renowned Formula 1 driver Lewis Hamilton, rapper and fashion icon A$AP Rocky, music producer and designer Pharrell Williams, and Vogue’s chief editor Anna Wintour.
The evening will also be marked by the presence of basketball legend LeBron James, who will serve as honorary chair, further underscoring the event’s celebration of cultural excellence across industries.

A Celebration of Tailoring and Menswear
In line with the theme, the 2025 Met Gala will spotlight menswear and suiting, inviting guests to explore the art of tailoring and fashion in fresh, innovative ways. The dress code, Tailored For You, inspires attendees to embrace the personal significance of tailoring, celebrating craftsmanship, culture, and individual expression all together.
This year’s gala is set to provide a stunning visual narrative of how Black dandyism has influenced not just fashion, but broader cultural movements and identities. Expect the red carpet to be filled with intricate, one-of-a-kind looks from both established and emerging designers, as the fashion world embraces the creativity and craftsmanship that Black tailoring has long championed.
