KUALA LUMPUR, 12 March 2025Malaysia’s long-anticipated National Sepak Takraw Academy is set to open in June, marking a major milestone for the development of the nation’s traditional sport. The academy aims to train young talents, enhance coaching expertise, and elevate Malaysia’s global sepak takraw standing.

A New Era for Sepak Takraw in Malaysia

The academy, supported by the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the Malaysian Sepak Takraw Association (PSM), will provide state-of-the-art training facilities, high-performance programs, and professional coaching. It will serve as a central hub for developing elite athletes and grassroots players.

“This academy is a game-changer for sepak takraw. It will nurture top talents and reinforce Malaysia’s dominance in the sport,” said Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh.

Key Features of the National Sepak Takraw Academy

  1. High-Performance Training Programs – Designed for national and state-level athletes.

Strengthening Malaysia’s Global Position in Sepak Takraw

The academy’s launch is part of Malaysia’s strategy to reclaim its dominance in international sepak takraw competitions. With rival nations making rapid progress, Malaysia aims to invest in talent development to regain its competitive edge.

“Sepak takraw is in our national identity. This academy ensures we remain at the top of the sport,” said PSM President Datuk Ahmad Ismail.

What’s Next?

The academy will begin operations in June, with its first intake of athletes and coaches undergoing intensive training. The government is also working on initiatives to promote sepak takraw at the school and community levels.
