Israel Renews Ground Offensive in Gaza as Ceasefire comes to a Halt

KUALA LUMPUR, March 20 – Israeli forces have continued ground operations in Gaza, intensifying military action and reclaiming control over a key land corridor. The renewed assault follows the breakdown of a fragile truce, escalating tensions and forcing thousands of Palestinians civilians to flee once again.

Escalation on The Ground

The Israeli military confirmed that its troop have re-entered the Netzarim Corridors, a strategically vital strip of land that bisects Gaza. Officials described this move as an effort to establish a security buffer between the northern and southern regions of the enclave.

The strip had been vacated by Israeli forces just weeks prior, allowing displaced civilians to cautiously return to their homes. However, this reoccupation makes movements within Gaza severely restricted once again.

“This marks a significant shift in military strategy. It effectively serves as a launchpad for further Israeli operations and deepens the division of Gaza’s territory.”

said Al Jazeera’s Hani Mahmoud, reporting from Gaza City.

Gaza health officials reported over 400 deaths last Tuesday alone as airstrikes rained on residential areas, where the innocent lives. Medics have warned that hospitals are deep struggle to handle the influx of wounded victims, already crippled by shortages of medical supplies.

Hamas Rejects Ceasefire Terms as Global Concern Grows

The latest fighting broke out after ceasefire talks fell apart. Israel claims Hamas rejected a new deal that would have freed hostages without ending the war. In response, Israel tightened its blockade, cutting off aid and electricity. Hamas, however, says Israel is breaking the original January agreement, which promised a step-by-step process toward peace and troop withdrawal.

Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz warned that military action would intensify unless all hostages were released and Hamas was removed from power. “Israel will act with an intensity you have not seen,” he said. The warning echoed earlier messages from U.S. officials, who told Gaza residents their future depended on cooperating with Israel.

The international community has reacted strongly. A UN building was hit by an airstrike, killing a staff member, leading UN Secretary-General António Guterres to demand an investigation. Leaders from Britain and Europe condemned the violence, while experts warn that if Israel refuses to move forward with peace talks, the war could drag on even longer.

As ceasefire talks stalled and military operations intensified, fears of a prolonged conflict grew among all. Political analysts suggest that Israel is hesitant to move into the next phase of negotiations, as it could lead to an official end to the war without actually achieving the complete dismantling of Hamas.

This humanitarian crisis continues to worsen with time, and thousands of civilians in Gaza remain caught in an endless crossfire: reflecting the desperate search for safety amid the devastation brought upon their land.
